I have Facebook installed on my iPhone. I do not experience any issues. However, according to the users’ messages, many are having issues with the Facebook app not working after iOS 18 update.
Fix Facebook problem on iPhone after iOS 18 update
Try the following steps one by one until your problem is resolved.
1. Restart the Facebook app
Simply quit the Facebook app and then reopen it. Here is how you can do this:
- Launch the app switcher screen. Here is how you can do this:
- If your iPhone has Face ID: Swipe up from the bottom of your screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
- If your iPhone has a Home button: Double press the Home button.
- Find the Facebook app’s preview icon, you can swipe left or right.
Swipe up on the icon.
Then open Facebook again to see if it is working now.
2. Restart your iPhone
Simple but effective. Simply restart your iPhone to fix Facebook issues on iOS 18. Here is how:
- iPhone with Face ID: Press and hold the volume up (or down) and the side button simultaneously until you see the power off slider. Drag the slider from left to right. Wait 30 seconds. Press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo.
- iPhone with a Home button: Press and hold the power button until you see the power off slider. Drag the slider from left to right. Wait 30 seconds. Then press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo.
3. Update the Facebook app
It is possible that the Facebook app is not working after iOS 18 update because the app need to be updated. Make sure that you have the latest version of Facebook app installed on your iPhone. You can check this by opening the App Store app on your iPhone.
4. Update your iPhone
Ensure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 18. Here’s how you can check for updates and update your device:
- Tap Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update.
- If a new iOS update is available, tap Update Now.
5. Check your internet connection
If your iPhone has no Internet connection, Facebook won’t work. Make sure that your iPhone has a working Wi-Fi connection or a cellular-data connection. If your connection is bad, you can try the following:
- Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, wait about ten seconds and turn off Airplane Mode.
- Restart your Wi-Fi router/modem. You can do so by unplugging the power cord from the modem and the router, waiting 30 seconds, and then plugging the cord back in.
- Reset your network settings by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Please note that this will reset your network settings, like your Wi-Fi passwords etc.
- If you’re trying to use the Facebook app over cellular, make sure that Use Cellular Data is on for Facebook. You can check this by going to Settings and tap Cellular or tap Mobile Data.
- If you are using a VPN, turn it off and try again.
6. Delete and reinstall the Facebook app
If you’re still facing problem, delete Facebook, restart your iPhone, and reinstall Facebook again. Here is how:
- Go to your Home Screen.
- Tap and hold the Facebook app icon until it start to jiggle.
- Then tap the remove icon (-) that is located in the upper-left corner of the app.
- Tap Delete.
- Now restart your iPhone.
- After restarting, go to the App Store, find the Facebook app and download and then install again.
- Check if the app is working now.
7. Check if Facebook is down
You might not be the only one experiencing problems with Facebook after iOS 18 update! If the app isn’t working for you, maybe it’s a site-wide issue. You could try to use Facebook using another browser or device, and see if it’s working elsewhere. Otherwise, you can check Down Detector’s Facebook page to see if there’s a problem with Facebook. If there is, there’s nothing you can do. Simply wait for Meta to fix the problem.
8. Use Safari or another browser to access Facebook
If none of the above steps work and If you are still having problems with the Facebook app, there is not much left to do. There is only two options left:
- Use your browser (Safari, edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc) and visit Facebook.com and check your feed.
- Contact Facebook and let them know the problem you are experiencing.
